Description

Description

Christine de Pisan Middle school has been involved in European projects for a few years now. We started with eTwinning projects with different partners all over Europe. These projects involved many subjects and teachers (Mathematics, English, Spanish, Italian, Science, Biology, ICT, Music, Arts...). Of course, at the beginning, only a couple of teachers were involved but over the years, more and more colleagues have joined in our projects or started creating their own. Our school which had not been very aware of Europe only 5 years ago, has become very active on that score both inside the school and in its immediate area. A growing number of students are involved directly or indirectly in our mobility projects or in our exchanges via eTwinning. They are beginning to realize the impact Europe has on our daily lives and to understand how it works. We would like to expand on these promising beginnings and make sure that all our students have the opportunity to learn more about how the European Union functions, to get to meet other Europeans and to encourage a sense of partnership, tolerance and trust. We live in a rural area and the students have few opportunities to visit museums or memorials. They (and their families) feel remote from the political power, be it in Paris or in Brussels. They often have little understanding of how Europe functions and it is a drawback for them to become active citizens. We hope to use the 3 years of the project to improve our students' knowledge of how the European Union impacts our lives, to understand the history behind its creation and to learn about its geography thanks to our history teachers. We wish to build a sense of citizenship and belonging thanks to our language teachers and their various exchanges. We aim to enhance a team spirit thanks to our mathematics teachers and their coding project with other European schools. And finally, a small group of us have the desire to teach about the European Green deal.
