Description
Description | The Central Energy Fund is preparing a report on the future of the Sapref refinery in Durban. The Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Mineral and Petroleum Resources is awaiting updates on whether the March 31, 2026 target for the study will be met. The refinery is considered critical for South Africa's fuel security, and there are plans to revive refining capacity to increase domestic capacity and strengthen energy security. Further engagement with the CEF is expected in May 2026 regarding plans and budget for the 2026/27 financial year, with SAPREF central to these discussions. The project also involves transitioning toward cleaner fuels while restoring refining capacity. |
