Saratov Mobile provides the mobile services in Saratov and Saratov region, a major industrial center of the Volga region with a population over 1 million. Saratov Mobile received its license to operate an AMPS network in Saratov in September 1995. The company was created as a joint venture between Vostok Moble, a subsidiary of Global Telesystem Group, and a local operator Satarov electrosvyaz. The company started its commercial operations in November 1995. The service is based on use of the AMPS-800 standard and the UNICELL technology. The system consisted of 3 base stations. Lucent Technologies delivered the equipment. Saratov Mobele also holds GSM 1800 license. In January 2001 Vostok Mobile B.V was acquired by MCT Corp. Saratov Mobile provides services under the brand name INDIGO which was introduced in May 2001 by MCT Corp. and unites 13 operators in Russia and CIS. On July 16, 2007, TeliaSonera closed the MCT Corp. (MCT) acquisition announced on July 9. TeliaSonera acquired 100 percent of the shares in MCT.
