Description
Description | The Project will repair, upgrade, and renew the aging infrastructure (exhibits, flooring, bathrooms, and public areas) within the facility. The project is ’shovel-ready’ and will support economic recovery. Fully re-opening the facility is a challenge and will occur slowly to ensure the health/safety of visitors/employees. All bathroom renovations will include non-touch faucets and soap dispensers, will be wheelchair accessible and gender neutral where feasible. The carpeting within the facility and on the exhibit floors will be removed/replaced with products easier to maintain, clean, and ensure the safety of visitors. A non-slip flooring will be used on the exhibit floor where slipping hazards are a current concern. Renovations will include painting/repairs to all public spaces. Main entrance and retail space renovations will ensure greater accessibility for visitors/staff. New seating/flooring in the theatre will accommodate the need for cleaning/sanitizing on an ongoing basis. The box office/concession will be renovated to enable increased accessibility for staff/guests. Some exhibits have been permanently removed; no longer meeting COVID-19 safety protocols, others will need to be modified and/or replaced to allow for physical distancing/cleaning protocols required for high touch displays. The Science Centre building is owned by SaskPower; however, the Saskatchewan Science Centre has a long term lease (to 2037); owning the assets within the facility (e.g. exhibits) and operates the facility. |
