Saskatoon city hall has introduced a $5.35 per hour fee for electric and hybrid vehicle charging at two city-operated charging stations located at the Lakewood and Lawson civic centres. The fee aims to reduce the city's subsidy for the stations, which were established as a pilot project in 2023 to encourage electric vehicle use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The stations cost about $21,400 annually to operate, including staff maintenance costs. Despite the fee, the city will still subsidize the stations by $4,000 to $8,000 each year. The fee applies 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays, and payment can be made via credit cards or other electronic options.
