Description

Description

The objective of the project is SaskWater plans to add an Actiflo clarifying unit to the Meadow Lake WTP to meet current water supply demand and to add redundancy to the plant. The proposed Actiflo clarifying unit will have a design capacity of 80 L/s of water, which is required to meet both of the communities’ water supply needs. In addition to addressing water supply capacity, the second clarifier unit will provide needed redundancy to ensure safe and reliable potable water. Currently there is no alternative treatment option at the WTP if the existing clarifier is not in operation or fails. SaskWater and its customers face significant water quality and service reliability risk by not having backup treatment. The current clarifier has not been taken offline for maintenance since 2005 and this poses a significant risk for water contamination. If a contamination event were to occur, the WTP would have to be shut down and it would take a number of days to restore proper clarifier operation to treat water. The main outcomes associated with a secondary clarifier include: improved reliability and safety of potable water for the City of Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation; improved efficiency and effectiveness of the water supply infrastructure and support for economic development and community growth. The scope of work includes supply and installation of an Actiflo clarifier unit and filters; polymer pumps, piping, electrical, instrumentation, building modifications, mechanical works; and all associated works.
