Description

Description	The Saudi Power Procurement Company has launched the qualification process for Saudi Arabia's second group of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The Group 2 BESS program comprises six independent storage projects with a combined capacity of 3,000 MW and 12,000 MWh of storage based on four-hour duration systems. The projects will be developed under a build-own-operate (BOO) model, with successful developers holding full ownership in the project special purpose vehicles (SPVs). The portfolio includes the 500-MW/2,000-MWh Samha project in the Qassim Region, Al-Leeth, Khulis and Ashyrah projects in the Makkah Region, Al-Henakiyah in the Madinah Region, and Sadawi in the Eastern Region. Each project company will sign a long-term storage services agreement with SPPC to develop and operate the facilities as independent storage provider (ISP) projects.
