Description
Description | The main project SCALE is a continuation of the previously completed bridge construction project (BP) SCALE, which has gathered five regional organisations from Sweden, Denmark and Norway in order to create cross-border cooperation through activities related to electrification of logistics chains. In the bridge construction project, a survey has been compiled of logistics terminals and larger reception points in the form of industries. The aim was to collect the points and estimate the number of heavy goods vehicles likely to move around these sites in order to estimate the potential energy demand that may come from charging heavy-duty vehicles in the regions involved in the project. In addition, the project team has developed a method to estimate the power demand at the individual logistics point based on vehicle movements and its potential charging. The results of these activities have been presented to a variety of actors with success. The material has been further used by actors in both public and private sectors for educational and influencing purposes. Surveys of this kind have been a rare phenomenon, so the material has been in demand and appreciated by truck manufacturers, regions, electricity grid companies, energy companies and others. In the main project SCALE, the group continues to develop the mapping and analysis by expanding it with more relevant points from the point of view of road transport. It is suggested that the mapping will be expanded with ports, depots, primary freight dispatch and reception points, truckstops and service points. By including these points, a larger share of the total aggregated energy demand that could potentially arise from the charging of the heavy-duty vehicles in the project’s constituent regions can be obtained. The mapping of logistics terminals carried out in the bridge construction project will be updated. In addition to this, the method for developing the power needs at individual logistics points will be further developed. The project group proposes to create templates and scenarios over charging profiles for different types of logistics-related activities in time and space, in order to estimate the impact needs across individual geographical areas. These profiles will enable the creation of templates and scenarios over the power demand that can be applied to similar logistics operations of the same type and size. This will allow more of the power demand to be captured than only at individual points. Data on the power demand is a prerequisite for being able to make decisions about and plan for charging infrastructure and possibly expansion of local networks at different logistics points. The project group in SCALE wants to contribute with the basis to facilitate this process for electricity grid companies, property owners, logistics operators, municipalities and regions, not least through dialogue with truck manufacturers, charging point suppliers and operators. Access to impact has been shown to be a potentially limiting factor for electrification plans for logistics operators located at specific geographical locations through experience from previous and ongoing projects. If there is a need for an extension of the existing subscription, this process can be costly and time consuming. In addition, the principle first applies, which means that a logistics operator in an area that is the first to build up charging infrastructure can take all the available effect. The ensuing operator risks being forced into large investments, which can have a deterrent effect. Sharing of subscriptions and charging infrastructure between different modes of transport thus becomes an important issue to investigate, not least from the perspective of better resource utilisation. One activity proposed to continue in the main project is the study of regional organisations’ ability to electrify their own internal transport chains. In addition, the project team will work on issues related to the financing of electrified logistics solutions during the construction and upscaling phase. |
