Description | The Sceirde Rocks offshore wind farm project involved constructing up to 30 fixed offshore wind turbines with a tip height of up to 325 metres at the Skerd rocks, located 5-11.5km off the south Connemara coast near Carna, north Galway. The project was planned as a €1.4 billion offshore wind farm but was abandoned in April 2025 after spending €50 million and recording €56 million in accumulated losses. The project had secured maritime area consents and was part of the State's first Offshore Renewable Energy Support Scheme 1 (ORESS 1). |
