The project involves the development, financing, construction, and long-term maintenance of 38 new or renovated school buildings across Flanders through a public-private partnership under the Scholen van Vlaanderen program (second phase).Led by the consortium Scholen op Maat (SOM) — a collaboration between Invesis and Belfius — it will deliver approximately 176,000 m² of modern educational infrastructure for over 20,000 pupils in preschool, primary, secondary, special, and adult education. The Flemish government will pay for the schools over 30 years once they become operational, enabling a faster rollout without immediate full capital outlay while addressing urgent shortages and improving learning environments.
