Description
Description | In recent years, discriminatory policies, practices and regulations have been consolidated in Italy, generating inequality and exclusion of the immigrant population, with greater impact on the most vulnerable, such as minors and women. The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the redress mechanisms under EU law are decidedly poorly known and applied, although there are many areas of application to protect the rights of migrants and people with migration backgrounds. To overcome the situation of systematic violation of migrants' rights in Italy SCUDI proposes an empowerment and capacity building action aimed at CSOs engaged in the defense of migrants' rights. Specifically, SCUDI will develop and strengthen their strategic dispute resolution capacity through: (i) the development of a juridical database and knowledge platform; (ii) the training of 40 lawyers and legal practitioners and 30 human rights activists; (iii) the creation of a network of 20 lawyers with the aim of instructing pilot cases on strategic cases; (iv) the training of 20 human rights activists as sentinels, able to identify strategic cases in the field; (v) the creation of a European network of civil society organizations to strengthen the advocacy of NGOs working to rescue refugees in the Mediterranean Sea; (vi) an awareness campaign, carried out to inform 10,000 activists and migrant communities about their rights and steps to defend themselves under EU laws and remedies. SCUDI will develop toolkits, methodological guidelines, podcast and a handbook of tips about Strategic Litigation on Sea Rescue to disseminate project results and promote its replicability, counting on reaching an audience of about 40,000 Italian citizens and 20,000 European citizens. |
