Description

Seamarq Hotel positions itself as a leading hotel in the eastern coast of KoreaSeamarq Hotel continues to write the history of “Hotel Hyundai” in the 21st century. Construction of Seamarq Hotel was completed in May 2015 after the reconstruction of Gyeongpodae Hotel Hyundai. Since the grand opening in 1971, Gyeongpodae Hotel Hyundai has attracted about 5.5 million tourists as one of the most famous hotels in the eastern coast of the country for about four decades until the commencement of its reconstruction in May 2013.Landmark hotel designed by renowned architect Richard MeierSeamarq Hotel includes the 29,406-square meter hotel building of 14 floors above ground and four basement levels as well as a convention center, an outdoor stage, an exhibition hall and a hanok (Korean-style house) hotel. This landmark was designed by the world’s renowned architect Richard Meier. He is nicknamed the Architect of White due to his simple and clean designs with the prominent use of the color white. Hyundai E&C joined hands with him to create this masterpiece, located between the East Sea and Gyeongpoho Lake, in which the wonderful natural environment is perfectly in harmony with the refined architectural design. To minimize the damage to the original site, Hyundai E&C separated the hotel building from the convention center as a different mass and preserved the surrounding natural environment such as a pine grove and a trail leading to the beach. Seamarq Hotel boasts of its outstanding architectural designs including transparent white panels, the glass curtain wall, floating balconies protruding from the façade of the building, and the infinite pool, all of which were attempts made by Hyundai E&C to bring inside the picturesque sea in front of the hotel and the beautiful lake behind it.Seamarq Hotel utilized TX active concrete panels for the first time in Asia, and obtained LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the U.S.’ green building certification system, in the category of new buildings in recognition of its use of renewable energy facilities using photovoltaic power and geothermal heat, and power-saving facilities. The hotel was awarded the grand prize in the private sector at the 2016 Korea Architecture Award (KAA).
