Seasonal wastewater lagoon optimization

We are not able to discharge the seasonal wastewater lagoons according to regulation and untreated wastewater is entering the environment. Seasonal discharge has not been done in 4 years. At this time, there are uncontrolled overflows from the lagoon to the environment. The outfall stations pumps are no longer working. The engineering study, which is not part of the scope of this project, is underway and scheduled to be complete by September 2017. The engineering study will determine if installing a pressure-fed or gravity-fed system is best to optimize the seasonal discharge. From the study, a solution will be determined and designed. From there, the capital works and types of pumps, pipes and electrical systems we will be purchased and installed, as well as the design specifications (gradient, diameter, and materials) will be determined through the study recommendations. The completion of the lagoon optimization will ensure that untreated wastewater does not enter the environment or negatively impact surrounding and off-reserve communities.
