Description
Description | In the southern Moroccan region around the cities of Sidi Ifni, Tiznit and Tlat Lakhsass, there will no longer be sufficient drinking water resources to supply the population in the coming years. A major reason for this is the increased demand caused by the development of the region and the decline in existing surface and groundwater resources. The increasing infiltration of seawater into groundwater reservoirs, exacerbated by climate change, and the resulting salinization of groundwater resources represent an additional threat, especially for the economically important regions near the coast. Since other options for meeting drinking water demand are either not feasible or involve even greater financial and technical expenditure, the construction of a seawater desalination plant is planned. The project measures concern the construction of a seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis with a capacity of 8640 m³/day. In addition, the construction of two transfer lines between Tiznit and Sidi Ifni (DN 400-500, 45km) and between Tiznit and Tlat Lakhssas (DN 160-315, 39km) to the additional areas to be supplied is planned. In addition, the project will finance rehabilitation of the distribution networks in the cities of Sidi Ifni and Ouled Teima. The aim of the project is to ensure the continuous, sustainable and needs-based supply of hygienically safe drinking water that complies with Moroccan standards in the project region. This is to be achieved by expanding and improving the drinking water supply in line with needs using seawater desalination in the southern Moroccan coastal region around the city of Sidi Ifni. The target group of the project is the population in the cities of Sidi Ifni, Tiznit and Tlat Lakhssas as well as those small and medium-sized centers that can be supplied by the transfer lines between Sidi Ifni - Tiznit and Tifni and Tlat Lakhssas. A total of around 340,000 people live in the project region, of which around 75% live predominantly in rural areas. |
