Second Additional Financing for the Shock Responsive Safety Net for Human Capital Project

The Shock Responsive Safety Net for Human Capital Project (SNHCP) supports Somalia's first national safety net program - Baxnaano - which provides poor and vulnerable households with nutrition-linked cash transfers to meet immediate consumption gaps and protect against malnutrition risks on account of a series of shocks to affect the country in recent years. With a view towards longer-term development, the Project supports efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia to strengthen institutional resilience and establish the foundations of a national social protection system. The Project, including its Additional Financings, comprises four components which finance (i) nutrition-linked unconditional cash transfers, (ii) delivery systems and institutional capacity building, (iii) project management, monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge management, and (iv) household registration in the unified social registry. It aims to provide income support and linkages to nutritional services, while ensuring shock-responsive coverage in times of crisis, to over 379,000 poor and vulnerable households (covering approximately 2.3 million people) across Somalia, with a total financing of US$ 325 million.
