Second Feedermain to the Washburn Reservoir and Booster Station

The Washburn Reservoir and Booster Station is a critical component of the water distribution network supplying potable water to the City of Burlington. Currently there is one feedermain from the Burlington Water Purification Plant, under the Queen Elizabeth Way Highway (QEW) to the Washburn Reservoir and Booster Station. This main is 43 years old and a catastrophic failure of this watermain would result in a significant reduction in the level of service, including fire protection, putting 135,000 residents at risk. This project involves installation of 3.95 km of trunk watermain between the Burlington Water Purification Plant and the Washburn Reservoir and Booster Station. This second feedermain will provide security of supply for the Water Distribution system, mitigating potential customer impacts and providing operational flexibility to inspect and repair the existing single feed. This project also involves coordinated replacement of distribution watermains within the project limits.
