Information Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has come up with Second Generation Ethanol Biorefinery Project, Bathinda, Punjab with a ticket size of 1421.46 INR Crores. This project in Refining sub-sector involves The current status of the project is - and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project HPCL is constructing a Second Generation Technology based Ethanol bio refinery at Bathinda District , Punjab with production capacity of 100 KL per day ethanol from using lignocellulose biomass. The project will help in reducing large-scale staple burning in the state post harvesting besides converting waste into energy. The 2G plant will play a major role in making bioethanol available for blending. The key elements in the project scope are as under Facilities Biomass storage, handling, milling and wet washing section and Storage of Enzymes, yeast, chemicals, intermediate products and Ethanol Installation of Solid Liquid Separation Unit separating the lignin for usage as boiler fuel Setting up of two Nos of twin Drum Process steam boiler and 3 Cell -six compartment cooling tower Various Conveyor system for feedstock ,chemical , Boiler Fuel and Ash handling Ethanol Production section comprising of PreTreatment, Enzymatic Hydrolysis, Co-fermentation, Distillation and Dehydration units Ethanol Loading Gantry facilities Raw water storage and treatment plant including DM Plant Environmental Control Units like Reverse Osmosis Treatment Plant, Multiple Effect evaporation systems meeting zero liquid discharge norms
