Second Natural Gas Plant in Aberdeen

NorthWestern Energy plans to build a second natural gas plant to generate electricity in Aberdeen. The facility will have a capacity of 131.2 megawatts and is estimated to cost $276 million. The plant will be located on the south side of Aberdeen near 135th Street and South Fifth Street, on land already owned by NorthWestern Energy and near an existing natural gas plant, utilizing existing infrastructure. Pre-construction activities could start in 2027, with commercial operations expected by mid-2030. The project responds to a growing need for electricity due to increasing natural gas consumption and energy demand in South Dakota.
