The Second Tianjin Urban Development and Environment Project will develop and implement physical, and institutional measures to enhance the efficiency, and equity of urban wastewater management, and transportation systems, thus facilitating Tianjin sustainable development. The project consists of the following components: 1) the environment component includes construction of storm water drains, sanitary sewers, and pumping stations, in Nanbeicang and Fukangnanlu areas, complementing the wastewater treatment plant WWTP) being financed by the Japan Bank for International Development and the Asia Development Bank; drains and sewers in the south suburb district of Tianjin; construction of a WWTP in Shuanglin; construction of water reclamation plants at the Dongjiao and Shuanglin WWTPs, and reclaimed water distribution systems for industrial/landscape uses; dredging and rehabilitation of cross-sections, bridges and culverts, and pumping stations of the Dagu Canal; and, municipal wastewater collection, and treatment systems in suburban towns of Tianjin municipality; 2) the transportation component entails construction of interchanges at two major intersections of the Middle Ring Road, and low traffic engineering improvements along the Inner Ring Road; extension of the area traffic control system, to include channels, in connection with bus priority measures; and, implementation of bus priority measures; and, 3) technical assistance and training will support the development of infrastructure information systems, of sewerage institutions and finance; of an organization to coordinate urban transport management, and, restructuring of bus routes, and design of bus priority measures.
