The development objective of the Second Ulaanbaatar Services Improvement Project is to provide improved water supply to the urban poor in a sustainable manner. Through its four components, the project will : 1) improve water supply coverage, and services through the construction, and repair of water supply networks to "ger" area residents, and to the underserved urban poor in particular; 2) component two, entails works to replace large diameter pipelines, thus facilitate water conservation, and improve water quality; 3) works under the third component, involve the replacement of obsolete, high energy consumption electrical pumps and motors, intended to save energy. Monitoring criteria will be conducted under this component; and, 4) support project management, focused on institutional strengthening.
