The Health Sector Programme Phase IV is intended to contribute to improving the sexual and reproductive health of the Burundian population and to reducing population pressure on natural resources (overall objective). The programme objective of Phase IV is to change the attitudes and behaviour of the population with regard to family planning and HIV prevention and to increase the use of modern contraceptives (including condoms). The target group of the project is the entire Burundian population of reproductive age between 15 and 49 years, with women being the focus for the reproductive health component and young people for both components. Phase IV of the sector programme contains - like the previous phases - two components, namely the promotion of sexual and reproductive health through the state programme for reproductive health (PNSR) and social marketing for HIV prevention through the non-governmental organisation PSI. Both components focus on education and behaviour change campaigns and the provision of high-quality and affordable contraceptives and condoms. The PNSR also provides training for health center staff in modern family planning methods.
