The FC module aims to ensure environmentally friendly and hygienically safe water supply and wastewater disposal in parts of the municipality of Himare and possibly other selected municipalities at cost-covering and socially acceptable rates while covering the peaks in demand caused by tourism in the summer months (module objective). Investments in the expansion and rehabilitation of water supply and wastewater disposal (including construction of a sewage treatment plant) in the municipality of Himare on the south coast of Albania will make up the main part of the FC measure. In addition to the investments in Himare, other municipalities may be considered on a smaller scale within the framework of the FC module. The target group is the rural population in the municipality of Himare and possibly other selected municipalities who will benefit from improved access to drinking water and resource protection through the introduction of wastewater disposal. The project also helps to create the infrastructural basis for anchoring sustainable tourism in the region. In addition to the population of the municipality of Himare, other parts of the population in the region will also benefit from the resulting positive income and employment effects. The project sponsor is the Albanian Development Fund (ADF), which, in addition to commissioning and managing the consulting services and supervising the technical detailed planning, is also responsible as a contractual partner for construction tenders and construction supervision. After completion of the construction work, the infrastructure will be handed over to the municipality of Himare or other participating municipalities, whose municipal water and sewage companies will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the investment measures.
