Sefalana Dairy and Cooking-Oil Manufacturing Projects

cancelled

Sefalana Group, a major consumer-goods company in Botswana, planned two large food manufacturing projects: a dairy business and a cooking-oil plant. These projects aimed to expand food and beverage manufacturing in Botswana and deepen vertical integration by producing more of what the company sells locally rather than importing it. The dairy project involved importing 400 pregnant cows from South Africa to supply a milk operation in Lobatse. However, both projects collapsed due to lack of government support and bureaucratic red tape, including border restrictions related to a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
