Senegal - Dakar City Sanitation Project

The Dakar City Sanitation Project forms part of the Water Sector Programme (LTP) defined by the Government of Senegal With the support of the World Bank. The LTP seeks to consolidate the achievements of the Water Sector Project (WSP) implemented since 1995 and which has already witnessed significant investments and a sound sectoral reform. The main project achievements include: (i) Construction of a 20,000 m3/day capacity treatment plant; (ii) Construction of six (6) new pumping stations and rehabilitation of three (3) others in the Reclaimed Area; (iii) Conducting an organizational study and putting in place a database and archiving system; (iv) Implementation of an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Programme; (v) Institutional support to Senegal National Sanitation Agency (ONAS). The estimated cost, net of taxes and customs duties, is CFAF 12.323 billion, i.e. UA 13.45 million. The project benefits are multiple and essentially concern the improvement of the health conditions of the inhabitants of Dakar, reduction of health expenses and development of the private sector.
