Description
Description | The Education Project II was the second Bank Group operation in the education sector of Senegal after the financing of the Project for the development of elementary education approved in 1986, which led to the construction and equipping of 100 classrooms, providing textbooks and embarking on a preventive maintenance programme in three regions: Diourbel, Fatick and Louga. The project is part of the Government's educational policy and action plan. The main objectives of this action plan are to develop elementary education, improve the quality and management of elementary, middle and secondary education and promote literacy activities. The project, which will cover a period of four (4) years, will include the following components: (i) Strengthening of elementary education infrastructure in the St. Louis and Kolda regions; (ii) Support for science and technology education; (iii) Strengthening of academic and departmental inspectorates; (iv) Preventive maintenance; (v) Support for project coordination. All the actions envisaged under this project will enable the government to achieve the objectives pursued in the education and training sector. The construction of 410 classrooms and the rehabilitation of 400 former classrooms will contribute to the implementation of the planned school expansion programme. In addition, the rehabilitation and equipping of departmental and academic inspections, the construction and equipping of science rooms in middle schools, as well as the training of elementary school inspectors and middle school teachers will improve the quality of education. Finally, the implementation of preventive maintenance activities is an important factor in ensuring the sustainability of school assets. |
