Description

Description

The Food Security Support Project in Louga, Matam and Kaffrine Regions has received a USD 40 million grant from the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP). It will ease access by small producers, women and their organizations to a wide range of agricultural and livestock infrastructure, particularly in terms of water control, storage and access to remote areas, as well as suitable technologies, services and training. The key expected outcomes are: (i) support for the development of 2 110 hectares of land through water control (1 600 hectares of lowland, 450 hectares of irrigation areas, and 60 hectares of gardens); (ii) establishment of 25 pastoral units around eight new and ten rehabilitated boreholes; (iii) construction of various kinds of buildings (18 farm buildings, 30 inoculation centres, 25 fodder storage sheds, 120 goat/sheep barns, and 60 poultry houses); (iv) construction of 120 km of rural roads; and (v) training and organization of more than 30 000 producers.
