Senegal - Primary, Mid-Level and Secondary Education Development Support Project

The proposed project falls under Senegal’s Ten-Year Education Plan drawn up as part of the United Nations special initiative for Africa. The project constitutes one of the best solutions to the problems in the education sector. Its implementation will help beef up Ministry of Education’s capacities to design, plan, coordinate and control the activities of the sector with a view to making investments cost-effective. The project will also help construct 390 primary schools (5 850 pupils per annum), four junior secondary schools (JSS) which will create vacancies for 2 800 additional students, two senior secondary schools for 2 000 students, 123 functional adult literacy centres. It will also help edit 179 000 civics textbooks. In addition, it will train 58 secondary school teachers delegated as EMSGT inspectors and 14 as inspectors of school and school-related administration, and 4 328 EMSG teachers and 203 EST teachers, which will improve the quality of education.
