Senegal - Regional Integration Plan for West Africa

In January 2012, the Bank contracted a consultant to undertake the study funded from the Canada Trust Fund to establish a regional integration action plan for West Africa, with an enhanced role for Senegal. The initiative is based on the premise that while ECOWAS has been in existence since 1975, regional integration in the region remains weak. The study will evaluate the challenges and opportunities in different sectors (agriculture, tourism, financial sector, governance, infrastructure, energy and the financial sector, with a focus on four countries (Senegal, Burkina, Nigeria, Ghana). During 2012, the countries had been reviewed and an interim report has been prepared which will facilitate the organisation of a validation workshop in 2013 and the initial report is expected to be delivered by the end of 2013.
