Senegal - Tariff Reform and Competitiveness Promotion Programme

The tariff reform and competitiveness promotion program is part of Senegal's socio-economic development strategy aimed at consolidating the foundations for growth by pursuing the liberalization of the economy and the promotion of the private sector in the perspective of a more efficient opening of the country on the regional and international market. The program focuses on the facilitation of foreign trade, taxation and private investment. It comprises 31 measures divided among the four components of (i) liberalization and facilitation of foreign trade, (ii) tax facilitation and transparency, (iii) investment facilitation, and (iv) promotion of the social sector. The program, which runs for 18 months from July 2000 to the end of December 2001, is financed by the World Bank and the Bank for 75.70 MUC and 20 MUC respectively. Its successful implementation will enable Senegal to improve the mobilization of internal and external resources and achieve strong economic growth in line with the poverty reduction goal.
