Senegal - Ziguinchor sanitation master plan study

The project to carry out the study of the Ziguinchor sanitation master plan is part of the Millennium Drinking Water and Sanitation Programme (PEPAM) set up by the Government of Senegal to achieve the Millennium Development Goals in the drinking water and sanitation sector for this city by 2015. This project is of great strategic importance as it is based on an innovative and integrated conceptual approach to urban sanitation development. It is an important and well justified initiative given the many difficulties associated with the sanitation services and storm water collection and disposal systems in the city of Ziguinchor. The Study has a duration of 21 months including 3 months for the preparation and procurement of consultancy services for the Study. It focuses on innovative technologies and methodological approaches in the field of WSS&A, which take into account gender, and which promote the local manufacture and dissemination of technologies by involving communities. One of the main dimensions of the Study will be to directly involve the populations in the choice of the most appropriate sanitation technologies for their needs and their ability and willingness to pay. The project will also identify financial partners who can contribute to the financing of the long-term investment plan and priority measures.
