Description

Senok Wind Power Pvt. Ltd., subsidiary of Senok Group, which was founded in 1979 by Mr. Noel Selvanayagam with Senok Travels Pvt., was planning the development of the 10MW Mampuri Wind Farm, Mampuri, Kalpitya, Puttalam district. The plant was expected to generate 28 million kWh annually, at 31.55% capacity factor. Phase 2 and 3 would add 10MW each to the wind farm, reported as under construction in December 2012. The project was to comprise 8 turbines of 1.25MW from India's Suzlon Energy Ltd, model S64-1250. The project held a PPA with state-run Ceylon Electricity Board for 18.66 ($0.206) rupees plus 2.14 rupees ($0.0236) per kWh for the first 8 years. The project was commissioned in June 2010. The equipment supply contract was signed in 2008 for the turbines to be supplied in January 2009. The generation license expires in December 2028. The supplier was Suzlon, supplying 8 turbines of 1.25MW (S64-1.25MW). Financial closure date was unknown, but estimated here at January 2009 (supply of turbines). Construction cost was reported as US$21 million. 55% of the funding was provided by the sponsor. The remainder was funded by the IFC.
