Description
Description | Lorne Street is a collector roadway that serves as one of two major gateways into the Town’s industrial area. The existing road, water and sidewalk assets are all in need of replacement making this corridor the Town’s top candidate for reconstruction. Properties within the work area (480m stretch from Queen St to the CPR Railway) include 26 homes, two factories and a commercial strip mall. The reconstruction of Lorne Street proposes to include approximately 430m of new storm sewer ranging in size from 600mm to 750mm. This new storm sewer will enable the separation of existing combined sanitary sewers. The existing 300/350mm combined sanitary trunk within this corridor currently accepts surface drainage from an area of 19 hectares. Engineering calculations have identified that separation of this combined sewer has the potential to divert up to 2,600 cubic meters of water out of the wastewater treatment plant during a five year storm event. This diversion meets the objectives of the Town’s Pollution Prevention and Control Program and the project will work towards the goals of reducing the scale and frequency of bypasses to secondary treatment at the wastewater treatment plant. The Rideau River is the receiving waterway for the Town’s effluent. This federally regulated waterway also carries a UNESCO designation recognized internationally. |
