Sepik Surf Lodge Expansion Project

The Sepik Surf Lodge is located in Wewak, East Sepik Province, and is established on Sect:03, Lot:04 Boram Road. Currently, it has 8 backpacker rooms of which two (2) are self-contained and six (6) are fan-cooled rooms with shared bathrooms -Currently, they are working on completing 4 deluxe self-contained rooms or mini flats with two bedrooms, bathrooms, and a kitchen. Within the lodge, the compound is a three (3) storey hotel building project with a 36-room capacity which they are seeking investors to assist develop, so it becomes a fully integrated lodging and hotel facility to serve the growing number of tourists in the township and province. The project has and will continue to: - meet the demand for tourism and hospitality services in the town and province - create more employment and spin-off business opportunities. The project location in Wewak has great potential for tourism products and surfing is also an emerging product. The surf lodge is already established and needs further capital investment for refurbishment and expansion. The owner has expanded already PGK1.3 million over 13 years to come this far and is now considering FDI to increase the capacity of the project to 36 or more rooms. The project is also seeking arrangements to incorporate modern and cost-effective technology for hotel facility operations. Managerial and skills transfer is also sought although there are many institutions in the province and the country that offer basic and professional tourism and hospitality training. We hope the new partnership we forge with an investor can also allow for exchange programs and exposure to our local staff to acquire practical experience with tourists.
