The plan is to serve the 370 FN community members who live in the area now served by the water system comprising approximately 10 km of community roads. It is intended that fiber would be installed so that the system will be sustainable and be capable of growing with the technology enhancements we have come to expect in this sector of the economy. We hope by this approach our community will not so

Description
Description | The plan is to serve the 370 FN community members who live in the area now served by the water system comprising approximately 10 km of community roads. It is intended that fiber would be installed so that the system will be sustainable and be capable of growing with the technology enhancements we have come to expect in this sector of the economy. We hope by this approach our community will not soon again be "behind" everyone else when it comes to connectivity and the services and opportunities that come with it. In the urban areas it has become automatic to extend fiber into new subdivisions so it only seems reasonable and fair to construct similar facilities in Serpent River First Nation (SRFN). Fortunately for SRFN there is fiber going through our community due to the highway and rail corridors that pass through the Reserve. A number of fiber drops already installed at key community locations such as the Band Office, which may make this project easier to implement. From the BlueSky website : "In spite of the recognition of the need for high speed internet access, and the efforts of the private sector, ICTNs [Information and Communication Technology Networks] and provincial and federal funding programs, some areas remain unserved while others do not have the bandwidth capacity essential to serve the community needs. Due to low population densities, and environmental and geographic factors, private sector service providers have difficulty justifying the large investment necessary to extend basic service and increase the bandwidth capacity of their existing networks." |
