Setting up of Freight Village at Varanasi

Information International experience shows that inland terminals transform and enlarge to accommodate warehousing and related facilities in the direct vicinity of the terminal and eventually develop into full fledged freight villages. In consonance to this concept and in order to ensure optimum utilization of MMTs, IWAI is developing freight village in the direct vicinity of MMT Varanasi. Development of Freight village at Varanasi will lead to integration of various modes of transport to allow freight aggregation and related synergies, facilitate seamless movement of freight with multiple modal choice to shippers and cargo owners thereby reducing logistic cost. The project will lead to employment generation and socio economic development of the region. As Varanasi is poised to emerge as a major cargo aggregation hub due to integration of multi modal transportation, it has inherent advantage of location. Varanasi MMT is connected with National Highway 2 and 7 and rail connectivity will be provided EDFC at Jeonathpur, about 7 km from MMT. The location is well suited to serve both as an intermodal hub and as well as a regional distribution center. Setting up of FV near IWT terminal would reduce the cost on First & Last Mile Connectivity. Setting-up FV near IWT terminal may reduce the cost on First & Last Mile Connectivity.
