Description | The project is focused on partnering with SEWA for the distribution of up to 200,000 energy efficient cookstoves and solar lanterns to SEWA members in India (primarily in Gujarat and Rajasthan) over a three year period. SEWA members are typically poor women, mostly in the informal sector, working in livelihood supporting activities. Affordable loans will be provided to SEWA members to finance the purchase of the equipment. IFC and FMO will guarantee a loan from local banks to SEWA members. The project is the result of the two year effort by the Tallberg Foundation, in partnership with YES Inc, undertaken as part of the build up for the 5th Global YES Summit – Rework the World. The project will bring together on a single platform, leading institutions such as Tallberg Foundation, YES Inc, IFC and FMO who will partner with SEWA on various aspects of the project in order to create a replicable and self-sustaining business model for financing green energy solutions for the poor. |
