Sewage treatment – State of Ceará

The public-private partnership (PPP) refers to the structuring of sewage collection and treatment services in 24 municipalities located in the metropolitan regions of Fortaleza and Cariri, in the state of Ceará. The project is expected to serve 4.238 million people and generate investments of around R$6.2 billion, expanding access to the service, with positive impacts on the health and quality of life of citizens, in addition to increasing productivity at work and school , by reducing sick leave, tourism incentives and real estate appreciation. Another objective is to increase the population's sewage coverage in all 24 municipalities to 90% by 2033. In the model under study, the Water and Sewage Company of the State of Ceará (CAGECE), a mixed economy company responsible for providing services in the State, will hire the private partner who wins the auction, who, in turn, will commit to investment and performance that will allow a change in the local scenario, characterized by low sewage collection and treatment.
