SFD Education in rural areas

The FC project SFD - Education in rural areas represents a continuation of Germany's commitment to the Yemeni education sector and continues the support of the Yemeni Social Fund for Development (SFD) that began in 2003. As part of the state's economic and social policy, the SFD finances measures to rehabilitate and expand the social and economic infrastructure in poor areas across the country. The use of FC funds is intended exclusively for SFD education projects. The FC project includes the expansion, rehabilitation and needs-based construction of new primary and secondary schools in rural communities in Yemen. In addition, the SFD carries out measures to train teaching staff and to sensitize the target population with regard to enrolling girls in school. The aim of the FC measure is to increase access to and use of primary and secondary schools in rural areas. The target group is pupils in grades 1 to 9 in the program area. We assume that around 5,500 children will benefit directly from the FC measure in the first phase. The project therefore makes a direct contribution to the overall objective of German bilateral development cooperation in the education sector, which summarizes the objectives of the national strategies for primary and secondary education: children and young people receive and use access to appropriate educational opportunities in primary and secondary education.
