The project addresses core problems in Yemen. It strengthens educational opportunities, mainly in rural areas. It pursues a dual objective. The protection of girls is to be promoted and the resilience of young Yemenis is to be strengthened by providing social, educational and economic opportunities. Schools are being rehabilitated and expanded and learning centers (CLCs) with one or two classrooms are being set up in rural areas. In addition, numerous training measures are being carried out to improve the capacities of school staff and teachers and thus also to increase the quality of formal school education. In addition, young people are being trained and employed as teaching assistants to close the teacher shortages in schools and to offer educational opportunities in the learning centers. The training and the income generated for young people is also a preventive measure against manipulation of young Yemenis by radical groups. Further training measures are aimed at the local population in the communities in order to convey the relevance of education, also and especially for girls, and to train parents to actively participate in the learning development of their children (by setting up parent advisory councils). The project is being carried out outside of government in governorates throughout the country. The project sponsor is the Yemeni Social Fund for Development (SFD).
