Description
Description | This application details the activities developed by the Smoke Free Partnership (SFP) Coalition for 2022 and how SFP’s objectives contribute directly to EU health policies. The overarching goal of the SFP Coalition’s work programme is to prevent cancer and other non-communicable diseases through tobacco control advocacy, so as to improve the health of EU citizens and reduce health inequalities by promoting tobacco prevention at EU and Member State level with a special focus on children and young people and health in all policies. SFP’s vision is a world where all children can grow up healthy and free from tobacco. To achieve this, SPF and its Coalition advocate to make tobacco control a priority; mobilise European stakeholders and decision makers, and also health organisations and networks to strengthen the global response to tobacco; and call for the implementation of the WHO FCTC to put an end to the tobacco epidemic. As such, the results of SFP’s and the Coalition’s work have the potential to reach over 450 million people in the EU and have a spill-over effect throughout the European Region and worldwide. Through its activities, SFP enhances and delivers on capacity-building, advocating and networking, and tangible outputs such as online materials and tools, which all impact on health activities and practices at EU level. Thus, the organisation contributes to the EU4Health Programme, in particular, the 2022 work programme that invites through the 2nd and 3rd strands on “Health promotion & disease prevention” and “Cancer” to actions on health promotion, cancer and non-communicable diseases (NCD) prevention, and addressing related risk factors. The proposal also contributes to the objective of “Saving lives through sustainable cancer prevention” included in the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, where the clear and measurable target of “a tobacco-free generation: ensuring that less than 5% of the population uses tobacco by 2040” was set. |
