SGR Extension from Syokimau to Nairobi Central Station

Kenya Railways Corporation plans to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line from the current Syokimau passenger terminus to Nairobi Central station, a 15-kilometre stretch. This extension will provide direct access for SGR passengers to Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD), eliminating the need for last-mile transport from Syokimau. The project includes construction of new passenger platforms at Imara Daima, Makadara, and Nairobi CBD stations, passenger overpasses connecting to existing metre-gauge railway platforms, upgrading a flood-prone 4-kilometre section of the metre-gauge railway, and construction of a bridge over the Mukuru River and reconstruction of the Likoni bridge. The extension supports the Nairobi Railway City project, a Sh28 billion initiative to transform 13 acres into a modern transport hub.
