Description	In March 1994, Kesas Sdn Bhd signed a 25-year BOT contract with PKNS - a division of the state of Selangor. Kesas agreed to build and operate a 35km expressway linking Kuala Lumpur to the Port Kelang - running from Shah Alam to the KL-Seremban Highway. Kesas Sdn Bhd has sponsorship for the Shah Alam Expressway from Gamuda Berhad and Arab Malaysian Berhad. Construction of phase 1 was started in 1995 and completed in 1998. The toll road opened in 1998. Kesas raised M$2 billion (US$797 million) through debt, equity and a bank guarantee in 1994. Additional funds of US$ 550 million were obtained in 1997 for phase II of the project.
