Description | The Shahpur Kandi Dam Project is a landmark infrastructure project inaugurated by the Punjab Chief Minister. It aims to boost electricity generation and irrigation facilities in Punjab. The project includes the construction of a dam 55.5 meters high with a 7.7 km-long hydel channel and two powerhouses with a total capacity of 206 MW. It will provide irrigation to 5,000 hectares of land in Punjab and ensure continuous irrigation supply to 1.18 lakh hectares under the Upper Bari Doab Canal system. The project also stores water released from the Ranjit Sagar Dam to optimize power generation during peak hours. |
