Description | The Shahpur Kandi project is a dam project inaugurated by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. It aims to boost Punjab's electricity generation and irrigation facilities, providing irrigation to 5,000 hectares of land and ensuring continuous irrigation supply to 1.18 lakh hectares under the Upper Bari Doab Canal system. The project includes a 55.5-meter high dam, a 7.7 km-long hydel channel, and two powerhouses with a total capacity of 206 MW. It is expected to be fully operational by March 2026 and will also promote tourism and water sports in the region. |
