Description | The Shark River Bridge, also known as Route 71 bridge between Belmar and Avon-by-the-Sea, temporarily reopened after mechanical failure repairs. Interim repairs on concrete foundations and electrical and mechanical components were completed. The bridge will close again after Columbus Day for two months to install a hydraulic piston system replacing unavailable mechanical components. A capital project is in design to replace the bridge, with final design expected to begin in 2026, construction starting in 2028, and completion in 2031. |
