The project entails the construction of the 50MW Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed solar plant, located in Blitta prefecture, Togo. The project was launched after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March 2019 between the Ministry of Mines and Energies and the sponsor - AMEA Power. AMEA Power will build, own, operate and transfer the solar power plant. The facility will sell electricity to the Togo Electric Power Company (CEET) under a 25-year PPA. The planned power output is split into two phases, with the first phase building out 30MW and the remainder to follow in a second phase. The project has a pretax total cost of XOF21.5 billion (USD36.35 million) and is co-financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (USD15 million), Amea Power, and West African Development Bank (BOAD) which provides the Togolese Government with a concessional loan of XOF7 billion (USD11.83 million).
