Shell Ultra-Deep Oil and Gas Exploration Project

Shell has received government approval to conduct ultra-deep oil and gas exploration off the west coast of South Africa, between Port Nolloth and Lamberts Bay. The project involves drilling up to five wells starting with one, using a drillship or similar vessel, with each well taking three to four months to drill. Activities include wireline logging, vertical seismic profiling, sonar mapping, seabed sampling, and use of remotely operated vehicles to inspect the seabed before and after drilling.
