Description | Planning project phase: This project consists of a study of Sudbury’s public transit system to determine the most effective means to improve rider experience and ease of access to services, followed by capital works based on the results of the study. The project will deliver, at a minimum, new smart card technology and new on-demand technology for use in Sudbury’s public transit fleet. Additional means to improve performance monitoring, efficiency and service level delivery will also be considered. The project will result in improved quality of and access to the public transit system in Sudbury, Ontario. Capital works determined: This project consists of the improvements to 18 outdated transit shelter infrastructure to enhance accessibility and be compliant with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements. The project also includes the implementation of various technological improvements that will improve rider experience and ease of access to transit services in the City of Greater Sudbury. Through onboard and at Hub surveillance system improvements, a focus on safety will be maintained. The project will deliver, at a minimum, new smart card fare box technology (rolling stock) and on-demand technology (rolling stock) for use in Sudbury’s public transit fleet. The implementation of various wayfinding improvements of onboard display (rolling stock - TFT unit) and at-stop/hub shelter and wayfinding enhancements will make the system more accessible and easier to navigate for existing and future riders. Media Management system implementation is the back-end system support to ensure specific/direct/timely/effective communication with riders. Technology enhancements related to transit system scheduling/tracking/recording will be implemented to improve performance monitoring, efficiency and service level delivery for the community. |
