Description | VDOT has been working since 2020 to determine the future of the dormant Norfolk Southern-owned rail corridor between Broadway and Front Royal. The project involves assessing the constraints, considerations, and costs for constructing a trail alongside the rail line as an alternative to a previously studied rail-to-trail option. The General Assembly funded a feasibility study published in 2021, and $35 million has been appropriated for land acquisition, initial planning, site development, rail asset and bridge restoration, and constructing an adjacent trail along the 49-mile corridor. |
