Description
Description | Shenzhen Dachan Bay Modern Port Development Co., Ltd., a joint venture company, was created to develop five berths for Phase I of Dachan Bay Container Termnals Project in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. The JV agreement was signed in July 2005 by the Modern Dachan Bay Investment Holdings (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. and state-owned Shenzhen Dachan Bay Port Investment & Development Co. The registered capital of the project company was US$ 298.3 (RMB 2.48 billion), while the total investment of the project was approximately US$ 857.5 million (RMB 7 billion). The state-owned company made a capital contribution with a land using right to take a 35% stake in the joint venture company, while Dachan Bay Investment, which was responsible for the operation and management, made an investment in cash to take 65% (about RMB 4642 million). Dachan Bay Investment was a wholly owned subsidiary of Wharf (Holdings) under Modern Terminals, which in turn was 55.3% owned by Wharf (Holdings). The phase I project was to have a designed capacity of 2.5 million TEUs a year. Covering a total area of 112 hectares, its five berths were to have a combined quay length of 18.30 meters. The initial depth along side of -15.5 meters could later be deepened to -18 meters, enabling it to handle the largest existing and planned container vessels. The first two berths were to be put into operation by the end of 2007 and the construction of the other three was to be completed by the end of 2008. MTL expected the phase I project to provide profits from 2009. The total Dachan bay Container Termials had 4 phases, which included 24 berths to build, with a total investment of US$ 3 billion (RMB 25 billion). According to the plan, after the completion of the 24 berths, The Dachan Bay Port was expected to have an initially yearly throughput of 7 million TEUs of containers and finally reach a throughput of ten million TEUs, equal to the existing throughput of the Shenzhen port. Dachan Bay Container Terminals had been designed by the China Communication Planning and Design Institute of Water Transportation, under the supervision of the Third Harbor Engineering Investigation and Design Institute. The land treatment for the gatehouse area was undertaken by the Third Navigation Engineering Bureau. With a strategic location that encompassed convenient land and waterway access to both the eastern and western sides of the Pearl River Delta (PRD), the terminal was ideal for handling containers passing between all parts of the vast Pan-PRD cargo catchments area and the rest of the world. |
